About The Gem Lab

Joseph A. Cassarino didn’t just dream of being a jeweler. He prepared himself to be an exceptional jeweler. A graduate of the Gemological Association of Great Britain, he opened his first jewelry shop, The Gem Lab, in 1958, armed with a prestigious gemological degree and a sterling reputation. Located in the Sibley Tower Building in downtown Rochester, New York, the original Gem Lab occupied one small room where Joe set up shop as the “jeweler’s jeweler” offering a variety of technical services, including gem identification, jewelry repair and fabrication.

When I say impeccable, bedside manner, flawless customer service skills, as well as keen eyes for detail, are far too inadequate to describe my very recent experience with The Gem Lab! I cannot put into words right now what they have done for me. I do not think they realize it. I think they think they just made me a ring. what they have done is much more than that. they took something I cherish deeply and made me a Talisman. They preserved many memories for me, they brought my vision to fruition, and they did it expeditiously with enthusiasm. It came out much better than I could have imagined!! My husband’s family has been using this shop for 3 generations! We get all of our jewelry and watches maintained here but we also designed my engagement and wedding band here. I wasn’t apart of the entire process but can fully vouch for the final results and express how well this business has taken care of us over the years. We won’t go anywhere else!
